Dr. Mark Armistead
Dr Armistead was born in Scotland and moved to the US when he was 6. After graduating from high school he attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Once completing a double major in chemistry and biology, he moved to Boston Massachusetts. While in dental school at Boston University, Dr. Armistead was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army. Upon graduating from dental school in 2005, he began is career as a dentist in the US Army.
Dr Armistead enjoyed his time in the Army as a commissioned officer. While on active duty, he was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. While he was there he provided care for new recruits in basic training and advanced infantry training. Dr. Armistead was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Army’s Advanced Oral Surgery and Exodontia course while serving there.
After serving as an officer, he moved back to NC and did contract work at Ft. Bragg with the 82nd Airbrone Division. Although, no longer on active duty, Dr. Armistead was the only contract dentist to ever receive an honorary pair of Airborne wings for exemplary work serving the soldier of the 82nd and the Special Forces Green Berets. Dr. Armistead now lives in Weaverville with his wife and two kids. Living in Scotland, Boston, and time in the Army exposed Dr. Armistead to many different life experiences and helped to expand his cultural awareness.

Advancing Dentistry Through Biological, Patient-Centered Care
We asked Dr. Armistead a few questions about what inspires his work and how he envisions the future of dentistry. His answers reflect his passion for biology-based care, natural healing, and thoughtful, patient-centered treatment.
What interests you most in your dental career?
What interests me most is learning new dental techniques and procedures to better serve our patients. I also enjoy getting to know my patients better and learning where their core values lie and their unique preferences when it comes to dentistry. Assessing this allows me the chance to treatment plan appropriately and what is of most value to them. Any new information or knowledge I gather, I enjoy sharing that information with patients so that they can make good decisions as far as their dental.
What drives you toward excellent patient care each day?
Helping alleviate patients’ physical and psychological state through dentistry. Whether it is taking a level 10 tooth ache to zero or improving a patients self-esteem through cosmetic procedures is the best part of this job.
What excites you most about the future of dentistry?
I am fascinated by all the new scientific advances that are being developed right now to regenerate dental pulp and the potential to offer healing over traditional root canal therapy. Likewise, the study of exosomes that will automatically target and eradicate areas of inflammation where modern methods fall short blows my mind. It is an exciting time to be a dentist and I cannot wait to see these advances being the standard of care.
