What Is a Sleep Study?

A sleep study is a diagnostic test used to assess how your body functions during sleep. These studies monitor jaw muscle activity, oxygen levels, heart rate, and potential airway disruptions—all of which can affect the quality of your sleep and overall health. Common symptoms that may prompt a sleep study include:

  • Loud snoring

  • Morning headaches

  • Jaw and tooth pain

  • Sore mouth or TMJ discomfort

  • Teeth grinding (Bruxism)

  • Daytime fatigue and poor concentration

Left unaddressed, disrupted sleep can contribute to chronic fatigue, cardiovascular issues, and long-term damage to your teeth and jaw due to clenching and grinding.

Home Sleep Tests (HST)

Your path to better sleep starts in the comfort of your own home. We provide a simple, take-home device that monitors key indicators of sleep apnea, including jaw muscle activity, oxygen saturation, and heart rate variability. The device tracks these functions overnight while you sleep naturally in your own environment—no wires, no in-lab inconvenience.

This test allows us to detect signs of Bruxism (teeth grinding), jaw clenching, airway obstructions, and oxygen drops associated with sleep apnea. Once your results are reviewed, we’ll discuss your options. If clinical signs of sleep apnea are present, we’ll connect you with one of our trusted local sleep physicians for a formal diagnosis and a collaborative treatment plan.

Customized Nightguards

Not all nightguards are created equal. At Anders Dental, we create custom-fitted nightguards that are molded precisely to your teeth and bite alignment. These high-quality oral appliances are designed to relieve tension in the jaw, protect your teeth from grinding and clenching, and alleviate pressure on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Wearing a customized nightguard can reduce morning headaches, jaw pain, cracked teeth, and the long-term effects of Bruxism—especially when linked to sleep apnea or airway restriction. Our guards are crafted using non-toxic, biocompatible materials that prioritize your comfort and safety.

Advancement Devices

For patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea, a Mandibular Advancement Device offers a highly effective, non-invasive solution. This oral appliance gently moves your lower jaw forward while you sleep, helping to expand the airway, reduce snoring, and minimize apnea episodes by keeping the soft tissues from collapsing.

MADs also provide additional relief from Bruxism and TMJ-related discomfort by stabilizing the jaw and promoting healthier sleep positioning. Each device is custom-fitted to your mouth for maximum effectiveness and comfort, making it a practical alternative for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP machines or prefer a less bulky solution.
